Getting Started
What is Ekelea?
Ekelea is a peer-to-peer escrow platform. You and a friend create a challenge, both lock your stake, and a trusted mediator decides the winner. Funds are released automatically — no one can touch the money mid-challenge.
How do I create an account?
Click 'Get started' on the homepage, fill in your full name, email, and phone number, then set a password. You can start creating challenges as soon as you deposit funds.
Is Ekelea available on mobile?
Yes. The web app is fully responsive and works on any smartphone browser. Native apps are on the roadmap.
Deposits & Withdrawals
How do I deposit funds?
Go to Deposit in the sidebar, enter an amount, and confirm the M-Pesa STK Push prompt that appears on your phone. Funds reflect in your wallet within seconds.
Are there any deposit fees?
Ekelea does not charge deposit fees. Standard Safaricom M-Pesa transaction charges may apply based on your tariff band.
How do I withdraw my winnings?
Navigate to Withdraw, enter the amount you want to send to M-Pesa, and confirm. Withdrawals are processed instantly during business hours.
What is the minimum deposit or withdrawal?
The minimum deposit is KES 10. The minimum withdrawal is KES 50. These limits may be adjusted periodically.
Challenges
How do I create a challenge?
Click 'Create Challenge' in the sidebar. Give the challenge a title, define the two possible outcomes (e.g. Team A / Team B), set the stake amount per side, choose a mediator, and submit. Your stake is locked from your wallet immediately.
How does my opponent join?
After creating the challenge, you receive a unique invite link. Share it with your opponent. They accept, and their stake is locked automatically. The challenge becomes ACTIVE once both sides have staked.
Can I cancel a challenge?
Challenges can be cancelled before the opponent accepts. Once both sides have staked, only the mediator or admin can cancel, and all stakes are refunded.
What happens when the challenge ends?
The mediator submits the result. Ekelea calculates payouts, deducts the platform fee, and releases winnings instantly to the winner's wallet.
Settlement & Security
Who is the mediator?
A mediator is a mutually trusted third party — a friend, referee, or impartial observer — chosen during challenge creation. They cannot access funds; they only submit the outcome.
What if I dispute the mediator's decision?
Contact Ekelea support with evidence. Our team reviews disputes and can override incorrect settlements. All challenge activity is logged with full audit trails.
Is my money safe?
Yes. Funds are held in a secure escrow wallet and cannot be accessed by any participant until the mediator settles. Ekelea uses rate limiting, duplicate-prevention, and idempotent payment processing.
Transactions
Where can I see my transaction history?
Go to Transactions in the sidebar. You'll see all deposits, withdrawals, stake locks, and payouts with full timestamps and reference numbers.
A transaction is pending — what do I do?
M-Pesa transactions typically complete within 30 seconds. If a deposit is pending for over 5 minutes, check your M-Pesa messages. If still unresolved, contact support with the M-Pesa reference.
